My Name is Khan: An Analysis
1. Why was Mr. Khan set aside for inspection at the airport?
Because of the young lady who told the immigration officers that Rizvan Khan might be a terrorist just because of his gestures and kinesics.
2. What important lesson did Rizvan’s mom taught him that he said “was not taught in schools”?
That there are only 2 kinds of people in this world, “the good ones and the bad ones”.
3. - 6. What was Rizvan’s sickness? What are the manifestations of this disease?
Rizvan Khan suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome.
a. cannot tolerate the color yellow
b. noise intolerant
c. no eye to eye contact whenever he talks to someone
7. Why does he want to meet the President?
Because he want to convince and prove to the US President, that he is a Muslim, he’s name is Khan and he is not terrorist.
8. What significance is in the meeting of Khan and Mama Jenny?
That there should not be a division between our Religion and race, that Christians and Muslims can live harmoniously together in a society.
9. How about Khan and Dr. Rehman?
He discovers that Dr. Rehman is a leader of a terrorist group that tries to destroy the Americans. He is the one responsible why Dr. Rehman was searched and convicted. When he contradicts the ideas of Dr. Rehman that it is their time to let their blood flow for the sake of Islam.
“The faith of Allah is love, not on hatred and war.”--- Rizvan Khan
10. How did Khan empower the Muslim people by his example?
By igniting the Muslim people that they should help everybody selflessly, irrespective of religion, race and ethnicity. These Muslim people made Rizvan Khan as their inspiration in anything they would do.
11. How did he inspire the rest of America?
By showing to the whole America that he is a Muslim yet he is the first one to extend help wholeheartedly to the people of Georgia who suffer from hurricane and flood for several days without any food, medicines and a modest shelter. The help of the US government would have not been made possible without the initiation of Khan.
12. – 13. What specific scene/ instance showed an example of discrimination? Prejudice?
a. When he was suspected as a terrorist in the airport due to the wrong perception of the young lady.
b. When he was not permitted to join the “Dinner for the President” which is worth for 500$ because he is a Muslim and that event are only for Christians.
c. When Sameer was bitten to death by the young Americans because he is associated with the family name of a Muslim- Khan.
14. – 15. What scene/ instance struck you most? Why?
a. The OA reaction of the Americans against Rizvan Khan whenever they saw him just because he is a Muslim. They didn’t even bother to know why Khan is there. Because he wants to prove something to them, that he is a Muslim and he is not a terrorist.
b. When Rizvan was jailed for 15 days without trial and arraignment. Because this is against the human rights to be detained without any trial and in fact no evidences gained at all.
In the fight against discrimination, prejudice and inequality I promise that I will try to understand people who are different, make friends with people who are different. Build a community that promotes understanding and respect for the diversity of our community and march in local and state parades.
